Planning an Animation (P3, P4, M2)
P3: Develop concept ideas and sequence for an animation to meet a client brief
Mood board
This is my mood board showing different places around London. This gave me inspiration to think of where people spend most of their time which is on the underground. I feel that this is a good place to set my zombie Animation because its a key part of London and it would promote the zombie scene as it would be people on their normal rout to work and suddenly zombies would come out of the tube and people would be confused and scared. This would intrigue the horror enthusiast as I would bring horror to London and therefore they will be enticed by the Zombie march.
Sketches
Facial Expressions
Here are the facial expressions of my characters. The top two pictures are my three zombies. The top picture relates to my main zombie who will be displayed on other platforms to promote the march. The second pic are my two other zombies who look identical to each other are there to help the main zombie. The third picture are the members of public who are at the station and they will mainly be screaming and upset because they are being eaten by the zombies.
Movements
For my zombie characters I intend to have them move is slow and scary way with their arms out. This is so I follow the conventions of a zombie mainly portrayed in films. This is so people will recognise they are zombies by the movemnt and sounds they create. For my people in the animation I will have them moving in a quick pace and then change to a slow and li p movements when they turn into zombies. This is to show the change from when they are humans to when they are zombies making it clear to the audience so they can understand it.

Synopsis
My animation will include zombies travelling on the London Underground. I chose this idea because it has one of the main focus of London which would be the London Underground and having the zombies crawling around and scaring the public would sell the idea of the zombie march as it gives people the idea of what's happening and where its happening. The scene will have a regular person made out of clay/ plastercine waiting for their train on their way to their job. Suddenly the train appears and zombies begin to crawl out of the train and onto the platform disrupting everyones journey.
Target audience
My brief has asked me to make an animation that will be suitable for an adult audience that are horror enthusiast. This means I will have to make my animation would have to be scary for the horror enthusiast to be enticed by the promotional video and therefore they would go to the zombie march. The character we will be using will be on different promotional products such as leaflets so we need to make it consistent throughout. The gender my Animation is targeting is both due to the fact we want as many people to join this zombie march as possible and the same goes for the ethnicity as e don't want to discriminate anyone. The age range we are targeting is 18-30 year olds meaning we will need to make it scary to appeal to this older age range who are horror enthusiast.
Purpose
The purpose of my animation is to promote BrainGoo UK ZombieFest March that is happening in central London in January next year. My animation will include Zombies as that is the main. theme and it will use one of they key aspects (the underground ) in order to promote what is going to happen and where it will take place so people who want to come get a full insight into it.

Risk assessment
One risk could be that the tripod we are setting up to keep are camera steady could cause someone to trip over because it is placed in the way of someone. This could lead to them falling over and potentially breaking a bone or having cut or bruises from when they fell. This would be a medium risk because it could lead to the person damaging their body and going to hospital. A way to overcome this is by ensuring people know their is a tripod there by placing some tape around it that will make people more aware therefore they won't knock over the tripod moving the camera messing up my animation or injury themselves.
Another Risk Could be wires that are used on the lights and camera can cause an electric shock to the person who touches them or trips over them. This could lead to them being injured or potentially death depending on the Severity of the shock. This is a high risk due to the fact that it could potentially lead to death of the person and therefore it can be serious. To overcome this I will ensure wires are out of the way as much as possible and ensure people are aware that their are wires around that are trip hazards. Therefore people will be more weary.
Lighting fixtures could also be a potential risk due to the fact it could over hear therefore become a fire hazard. This would be a high risk due to the fact it could lead to people being burned and or die because of the fire. To overcome this will ensure the lighting operator takes control and watches the lights carefully so they don't overheat and when they do they will turn them off for a bit to allow them to cool down. This will ensure no fires start ruining my nation as well as burning and or killing people due to the fire.

SWOT Analysis
Strengths
One strength of this campaign is that it is for a niche audience meaning those who are interested in zombies and dress up they will join In on this march and they will feel targeted. This will get more attention from this audience and therefore the USP will be horror enthusiast who enjoy dressing up and because its not been done before people will find it interesting to see what it's like. Another strength of this campaign is the use of animation. When talking about horror conventions we wouldn't associate them with animation so it would be a different take on how to attract the target audience meaning they would attract animation enthusiast as well. The zombie character will be used on flyers and on social media campaign so it will become recognisable towards the audience on a wide range of platforms.
Weaknesses
A weakness of this campaign is the fact that because we are using animation horror enthusiast who are our target audience may not take this promotional video seriously as horror conventions aren't associated with animation as animation is usually associated with children tv and happiness where as horror is associated with death and scary and gory images. This may put the horror enthusiast off of coming to the march because it seems childlike and they will feel its not what they want to spend time at meaning our promotional video wouldn't entice them. If our character isn't scary enough the adults may not take the animation seriously and therefore the primary target audience won't be intrigued by Brain GOO UK march as it seems child like therefore there would be less brand awareness.
Opportunities
Some opportunities that can arise from making this promotional animation is that we could attract animation fans as well as the horror enthusiasts. This will be done by using claymation/ stop motion in order to bring the characters to life this would also attract a secondary audience of teenagers as it will be scary however the humour from the clay zombie would entertain them. This means we can open up the target to gain more attention from the secondary audeinence as well as the niche primary target audience. This will bring more brand awareness to Brain GOO UK meaning the march will only grow. Because it is a nice target audience the USP is people who are horror enthusiast that enjoy dress up meaning its a small demographic that will join in and they will feel directly targeted and therefore share around this campaign to others raising the profile of this campaign. Another opportunity would be using the cross media platforms such as social media to promote this march and posting it on social media such as Instagram and Facebook along with posters that use our main character to get the word around.
Threats
The threats that would occur to my animation would include the style of animation due to the fact claymation is usually used to make children's animation such as Wallace and Gromit or Pingu. This may cause threat to our animation because we want Adults to be our primary target audience who are horror enthusiast where as children might see it as an animation for the due to the style so adults may not take it seriously and therefore children will be coming to the march instead of adults which defeats the purpose. This may affect my USP due to the fact that if it looks too child like the horror enthusiast will not be enticed by it and therefore won't be sold to them and they won't come to the march. Another threat would be competitors as they may have a similar idea and therefore they could promote it before us and therefore they may gain more band awareness leaving Brain GOO to have fewer followers.

Equipment
- Camera- I will need this to take the pictures of my characters frame by frame in order toileting make it look as if it were moving.
- Background- I made a backplate out of cardboard and put blue paper on it to create a blue screen that I will use to give my animation life.
- Plastercine models- I will create these characters and when I mover them inch by inc they will look a if they are walking or running or screaming.
- Tripod- This will keep my camera steady and in place so it doesn't move and ruin my animation.
- Lights- This will ensure the characters get enough light and therefore no shadow will be shown that are unnecessary.
Personnel
- Voice over artist- This is so there is some speech in my animation so it sounds like the characters are speaking to really bring them to life.
- Camera operator- They will ensure the filming is right and the camera doesn't move so I get the best animation as possible.
- Lighting manager- To ensure the lighting is correct at all times so there no unnesacary shadows that occur when filming so it looks continuous.
- Model maker- We need someone who will be able to make good looking zombies so people can tell what they are.
- Background creator- We need a blue screen so the characters look as if they are placed on real life backgrounds.
Creating the backplates
These are the back plates I intend to use within my animation. I wanted to reflect London as the advert is promoting a London march.
